- What do you think Calvin means when he says, "Isn’t this wonderful? I feel as though I were just being born. I’m not alone anymore!"
- Why does Mrs. Who use so many quotes instead of using her own words? What can you infer about a person who speaks in quotes? Try to think of a pro and a con.
- What did Mrs. Whatsit show them when they reached the summit of the mountain? How did it make each kid feel? How do you think it would make you feel?

ReplyDelete1) Ithink that Calvin feels that his own family does not understand him and he feels like an outsider like Meg expressed she feels in chapters one and two.
1. Calvin feels that his family doesn't even care about him. This influences how he feels about Meg's family because since Meg has a family that cares about her, Calvin thinks of her so highly.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Nigel, Calvin does feel like an outcast. Meg felt the same way in school and with her family. It seems like their low self-esteem ties in with family problems. Meg gives off negative behavior or feelings about herself ever since her father went missing. Calvin gives off negative feelings towards his family because they don't show that they really care about him.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nigel because Calvin thinks his family doesn't understand him. I have a question: Have any of you guys experienced anything like Calvin where people don't understand you?
ReplyDeleteMrs. Who always refers to quotes that people say. I think she does this because the quotes are important to her. She might also think they are wise for people including children to listen to. I think the best quote was:"The heart has its reasons, whereof reason knows nothing." Mrs. Who was talking about Charles mother's feelings about his father.I have a question for the class: Do you guys every use quotes when you are giving advise to people?
ReplyDeleteSerenity W. I think Calvin means that he's happy because he's not alone anymore. When babies or kids are born, they are not alone beacuse doctors and parents are there to see them. It also means that he is not alone anymore.
ReplyDeleteI think Calvin means that he isn't alone anymore and that he has someone to go to or connect with.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Ms. Who showing Calvin this magical land if his father isn't in danger and / or if he doesn't have any spacial talent?
ReplyDelete~Nakeya Harris- Rosenthal~
1) I think Calvin knows that his family cares about him but, sometimes he doesn't always feel appretiated. Because Meg has a family that cares about her, Calvin feels he is able to be free around Meg's family and let his walls go down.
ReplyDelete~Nakeya Harris- Rosenthal~
For question 1, it is hard to say who has it better or worse(Meg or Calvin) because Meg doesn't have her father in her life and she's starting to loss hope on if he will come back. But, Calvin has both his parents and his sibblings, but in his eyes, that's just more people that don't like him.

1.)Calvin feels that his family doesn't care about him and his family doesn't appreciate him. This influence how he feels about Meg family because they understand him, care about him,and appreciate him better than his own family do.
ReplyDeleteWhat i think Calvin means when he says, "Isn’t this wonderful? I feel as though I were just being born. I’m not alone anymore!" is that he is being a little sarcastic. what I mean by that is that some of the words in this phrase, such as "I feel as though i were just being born", and "I'm not alone anymore." another good word would be over dramatic, because facts that he was already born.Do you understand what I am trying to express?!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Kai's answer is completely reasonable, by saying that Meg's and Calvin's low self esteem is connected with family problems.
ReplyDelete1. I believe calvin feels like his family is okay but when he sees Megs family he feels like he could fit in there maybee.
ReplyDeleteI agree with nigel in saying that calvin dosent feel at home with his family, or feels like hes misunderstood.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to make a comment that I think Meg and Calvin are starting to like each other/ fall in love with each other. Does anyone agree?
ReplyDeleteKarionV
ReplyDelete1) I think Calvin feels that his family does not treat him well and his family probaly doesn't notice him. When Calvin looks at Meg he thinks her family cares and notices her every move.
Question: Why does Calvin's family treat Calvin the way they do because Calvin seems like a bright kid.
Connections: Sometimes I feel like Calvin because sometimes my family barely notices my good deeds.
Agreement: I agree with Kai about that how Calvin thinks of Meg. Calvin probaly thinks that Megs life is perfect, but its not there lives are about the same.
I agree with you Demetris, it does seem like Meg and Calvin are liking each other/ falling in love. Whenever Meg was feeling bad about herself, Calvin was their to cheer her up. There is definitely a connection between them or a connection that is in progress.
ReplyDelete2. Mrs. Who speaks in so many quotes because she is different. I can infer that a person who speaks in quotes is very intelligent and likes literature. But it can be both a gift and a curse. It can be a gift because it makes you look very, very intellectual. Yet, it can also make you look as if you cannot come up with your own thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Gaquise about their self esteem being caused by family issues. I wonder if Meg and Calvin will be able to help each other with it and gain confidence
ReplyDeleteMichael Crockett
ReplyDeleteCalvin feels like he just started a new family relationship with meg's family. The way he says it is that his family doesn't care for him at all. He isn't alone anymore now that he has met Meg's family. Yeh, I get that, but how does he do it that fast though.
Michael Crockett
ReplyDeleteI agree with kai that Meg and Calvin's problems of low selfesteem does come from family problems.
Meg's problems come from her father and others. Calvin's problems come from his family not caring to much about him.
1. Calvin means that in his years of life he never really had a family that was there for him.He has been alone his whole life and when I heard that Felt bad for him because out of my 12 years of living I had always had someone their for me.
ReplyDeleteI would want to answ3ers Karions question "Why does Calvin's family treat Calvin the way they do" and I think they treat him taht way because they dont believee in him
Mrs. Who showed the children a dark shadow that Meg and Charles Wallace father is fighting. This made Meg devastated and Charles Wallace just blank. If I saw this I would be shocked and still have the image in my head.
ReplyDeleteEnia G.
I have a question. Where did Mrs.Who , Mrs.Which, and Charles Wallace come from when Meg and Calvin were sitting in the backyard? I thought that Charles Wallace was sound a sleep.

ReplyDelete1. Calvin feels like he is nothing to his family. He feels unloved and not cared about. This is vise versa with Meg's family. He isn't alone anymore like him being misunderstood in his family. He is understood and loved in Meg's family.
Amari Brown
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nigel about Calvin feeling inferior to his family. Meg felt this way in chapters 1 and two by feeling the dumb and low one in the family.
Zayd Muhammad
ReplyDeleteCalvin means that he doesn't stand out anymore and has someone similar to him.
Brennan Wamble
ReplyDeleteI think Calvin feels like he is not appreciated by his family. Now when he is with Meg's family he feels better. That is why he feels like he is more at home as I would feel.
I think Mrs. Who speaks in quotes because it seems better to talk with quotes. In my opinion I think that she sounds very intelligent as Jerusalem said. I think that it is an imperitive thing you have to have when you are in remarkable situations iin good and bad ways.
1. ok, I think Calvin means that he is so relieved because he has never met people like Meg and her family before. Also, he felt so lonely and he had nobody to talk to, and now he found Meg. Even though he is several grades ahead of Meg, at least it it someone to talk to.
ReplyDelete2. I think Ms. Who talks in quotes for many reasons. One, she just loves shakespeare or something. I think that someone who speaks in quotes doesn't have anything else to say about it, or maybe everything connects to shakespeare. I think someone who speaks in quotes can be very annoying though. That's just what I think.
I think that a person that speaks in quotes reads and listens to things a lot. This means that they are fluent and are good at certain things
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jerusalem & Brennan when they say that people that speak in quotes are probably intelligent.
ReplyDeleteN WIMBERLY
ReplyDeleteI think that Mrs. Who has probably has read ALOT of books

ReplyDeleteEnia I think that all of the Mrs. and Charles used some kind of Instant Transmission technique.
Enia, they all came right from behind them, but it was dark, so "darkness"
